January 1, 2019 Benefits and Costs
New York has released the benefit’s, Statewide Average Weekly Wage and employee contribution percentage effective on January 1, 2019.
Starting January 1, 2019, the number of weeks eligible employees can take to bond with a new child, care for a sick family member, or assist loved ones when a family member is deployed abroad on active military service increases to 10 weeks. Note: If employee is on PFL that crosses over to 2019, the benefit and amount of leave time remain at the 2018 levels.
The benefit amount increases to 55% of the employees’ average weekly wage up to 55% of the Statewide Average Weekly Wage of $1,357.11. The maximum weekly benefit for 2019 is $746.41.
Worker’s Average Weekly Wage Weekly PFL Benefit
Paid Family Leave is fully funded by employee’s. The 2019 contribution rate will increase to $0.153% of the employee’s gross wages. The maximum annual contribution amount will increase to $107.97. For example an employee earning $519 a week ($27,000 a year) will pay $.80 a week for a weekly benefit of $285.45.
